Why You Should Never Teach Mt 6:33 Alone

While reading Matthew's Gospel in 1986, God said "Look closer." I had just finished chapter six. My eyes settled on the phase "all these things," and the LORD said, "Look again." So, I did. What I noticed stunned me. Jesus used the phrase "all these things" three times in just two verses. It was from that prompting led me to the conclusion that the Lord was talking about food, clothing and drink alone.

It is from that vantage point that I am going to provide you with 5 reasons why we should never share Matthew 6:33 alone - particularly prior to asking for donations. Were you aware that Satan used the same phrase but on Jesus? When a Pastor or Bible teacher teaches Matthew 6:33 alone, he is an infinite distance away from the catalyst of what I like to refer to as Christ Context.

REASON #5

When taught alone, the phrase "all these things" is purely subjective.

It is said that there are approximately 8.25 Billion people alive on earth today, and I can guarantee that "all these things," when not taught in its proper context, means very different things to different people.

"Pastors and Bible Teachers," should surely know better than playing the Mt. 6:33 card alone and are, therefore, automatically suspect.

REASON #4

Jesus used the phrase "All these things" not once but 3 times between verses 31 and 33 OF MATTHEW6!

REASON #3

At the very least, Matthew 6:33 has 3 immediate family members in verses 31, 32, 33, and 34. In similar fashion, "all these things" has 30 first cousins within Matthew chapter 6 alone.

REASON #2

Sharing Matthew 6:33 ALONE encourages people to seek God for the wrong reasons - standing in direct opposition to Jesus' message concerning the God which meets our needs. Teaching Mt. 6:33 alone makes the verse an orphan.

REASON #1

Last but not least, it's God's word.

_____

"Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." (Matthew 6:31-34)
